Principal Investigator: Dr Mary J. O'Connell
Primarily our research is focussed on understanding mammalian evolution and disease from a molecular perspective. Our research involves phylogenetic and molecular evolutionary analyses of protein and genomic evolution. Our research addresses fundamental questions about mammalian genomic, regulatory, phylogenetic, and protein evolution. Please see our Publications
Ongoing projects in our group:
Paleobiochemistry - Adaptation and the evolution of specificity of Plant and Mammalian Peroxidases.
Cancer Evolution and Cancer Selection Theory.
Mammalian Phylogenetics.
Molecular Zoology.
The Evolution of the Mammalian Imprintome.
Molecular Evolution and Adaptation of bacterial surface layer proteins.
Human and Mouse disunity cases of the immune system - immunoinformatics.
Resistance to nematode infection: comparative genomic analyses of sheep defense genes
We are funded by the following national and institutional funding: Science foundation Ireland, Irish Research Council for Science and Technology, Pierse Trust, Teagasc Walsh Fellowship and the O'Hare Fellowship DCU. The Irish Centre for High End computing provide the majority of our computational requirements ICHEC. We are also members of The Centre for Scientific Computing & Complex Systems Modelling at DCU Sci-Sym, which is a centre of excellence for researchers working in high end computing.
